As parents of twins – Mack and Madi – my late wife Britt (matriarch of the MORE family until her passing in 2016) and I learned first-hand what it meant to travel with young children. They don’t fit into prescribed timelines, and have specific needs when it comes to what they eat, where they sleep, and their entertainment. We experienced the joy in their effervescent excitement at discovering a new place, and came to realise that schedules should be left at home, with a little extra freedom for them to just play, explore, and be kids… And so began our journey of crafting the Mack & Madi Family Experience, which we have brought into our lodges and hotels for our family travellers. – Robert More, Owner of MORE
We have carefully created environments that are welcoming to guests of all ages, and encourage your family to feel at home away from home – but with some added luxuries. We know how far you have travelled and the effort put in to find just the right place, and wish for you to enjoy it on your own terms.
Each of MORE’s lodges and hotels provides a place for loved ones to come together, and with every comfort and convenience afforded, there is time for the rest to take care of itself. Family-sized villas, suites, and apartments give children their own bedrooms – just like home, only better! – with new and exciting toys to play with and bedtime stories left on their pillows each night. Our friendly spaces will have young guests settled in no time.
Furthering our commitment to connecting families is the evolution of the MORE Villa circuit. We invite you to experience Fish Eagle Villa (Ivory Lodge, Lion Sands Game Reserve), Hi’Nkweni Villa (Tinga Lodge, Lion Sands Game Reserve), or Redcliffe House (More Quarters, Cape Town) as your own ultimate family safari or city retreat. And private relaxation areas and dedicated staff (including a personal chef and Field Guide at Ivory Lodge), always on hand, ensure you are able to do just that.
To wake up to the lion’s roar and sight of elephants right off our veranda was amazing, but to… share such extraordinary moments with our children was absolutely a once in a lifetime experience! – TripAdvisor review
During this pause, our commitment is to creating enriching experiences for your whole family that, shared, reconnect you with yourself, each other, and the ‘wonder-fullness’ of life. Mother Nature is, perhaps, the greatest teacher of the only things that really matter. Whether inspecting a tiny wild flower or hearing the trumpet of an elephant in real life for the very first time, we rediscover the pure beauty of life through the awe-filled gazes and delighted squeals of our children.
In addition to family game drives, we offer a programme of specially-planned toddler-to-teen activities at our lodges’ Eco House and Eco Garden education and entertainment areas. Here, we often see young guests disconnecting from the digital sphere as they become engaged with the many fascinations of the natural world. Future NJ MORE Field Guides? We hope so! Parents have the option of joining their children or taking a little time for themselves… with spa therapies or poolside cocktails…
A team of travel experts at each of our city hotels will also gladly assist with arranging fun-filled family outings. That being said, your family is not restricted to an itinerary and you can arrange your stay around exactly what you feel like doing, or take up opportunities that arise in the moment. Should parents want to do something just the two of us, dedicated childminders at each of our city and safari properties are on hand to keep the children amused and out of mischief.
The chef has magic! My nine year old wished a tuna on our late night arrival, and it appeared on her lunch plate the next day! – TripAdvisor review
Meal times – in the dining room, around a boma fire, or out in the bush – bring everyone around the table. Dishes are prepared with seasonal ingredients, packed with wholesome flavour, and plentiful – no one goes hungry! Our chefs take pride in crafting cuisine to meet any dietary requirement and that appeals to the most discerning of palates – children also have their own full menu. And then there are always treats… cosy up to toast marshmallows on the fire or sip hot chocolate in bed.
Please note: There are age limits and activity restrictions applicable at each of MORE’s lodges and hotels, however we aim to create as inclusive a family experience as possible.
