There is a word in Africa that we hold dear. “Ubuntu” relates to the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.
If there is one person who embodied the spirit of “Ubuntu” in South Africa, it was Nelson Mandela.
We at More Community Trust are a non-profit organisation whose core objective is to provide meaningful support for our local communities.
Projects undertaken are all self-sustainable, as our belief is that by enriching communities to contribute their own effort and skill, projects are kept alive into the future. Each member of the community has a role to play, and in so doing inspires a secured pride, responsibility, accountability and happiness in community members.
We have a strong belief that the future of South Africa very much lies within the education and development of today’s youth. For South Africa to continue thriving, the children, specifically of the townships, need as much support as they can get.
It is estimated that about 80% of young children in South Africa’s townships do not have access to early childhood development education (ECD) and therefore miss out on the support required to develop to their full potential. A lack of early childhood development (ECD) facilities leaves many young and vulnerable children unattended and neglected on the streets every day.
More Quarters supports a Cape Town NGO called “Matchbox” who is involved in the up-liftment of township creche’ and nursery facilities. For more information please click here. The current Matchbox project is at the Injongo creche, situated in the township of Mfuleni just outside Cape Town.
If you are staying with us at More Quarters, we invite you to visit Mavis and her children at Injongo. They would be delighted to show you around their school! The trip includes;
- Pick-up by a professional guide who will take you to the area of Mfuleni
- Visit with the children and Mavis at Injongo
- A stop in the Township of Langa for a walk around some sites of cultural and political significance
- A donation to Matchbox to assist with the on-going development of Injongo.
Cost: Kindly enquire with the hotel
The experience is humbling and inspiring in equal measure. YOU can make a difference.
PACK FOR A PURPOSE It was some three years ago that we were approached by a representative from Pack for a Purpose who had seen Lion Sands Game Reserve on an episode of ‘The Bachelor’. Pack for a Purpose has facilitated a direct bridge between our small piece of Africa, and the rest of the world. Since the inception of the Pack for a Purpose and MORE partnership, the following initiatives have directly benefited.
- HENNA PRE-SCHOOL
- OBAKENG SCHOOL
- INJONGO CRECHE
Thanks to Pack for a Purpose, hundreds of our guests from around the world have arrived on safari, and in the Mother City with more than just dreams. Their suitcases have been packed to the brim with basic yet necessary supplies as listed on the Pack for a Purpose site, which have had an exponential impact on the lives of the very young recipients at the receiving end. For us at MORE, Pack for a Purpose provides an easily achievable way of making a valuable and long lasting contribution to people in dire need. With the rise in global responsible tourism, we are thrilled at being able to afford our clients with the option of making a difference through this very worthwhile initiative.
